The World is Burning

Updated: Mar 29

Late 2019 - in Wuhan, China - the spark originated that would set off the raging wildfire that the Covid-19 pandemic has become today. We are witnessing our world burning. A world in which we have consumed, traded, traveled and lived at the expense of others and mother nature. I see people across the world staying inside, minimizing physical contact, losing their comfort zone, experiencing emotional discomfort, losing their health, losing loved ones, losing freedom of physical movement, their work, income and lifestyle. Everything is changing. The world is ablaze. In the course of a few weeks, our illusion of a comfortable, predictable life has dissolved.

On the very first day of 2020 - when a storage facility in Zoetermeer, Netherlands burned to the ground - I lost all my personal possessions in a fire. It made me burn inside. I let it burn until I died. One of many deaths I have died in this life. Out of that shedding, a deeper sense of spaciousness, connectedness and purpose is emerging.

Back to the Covid-19 pandemic. So much noise.

What happens when you listen deeply to the pulse of your life,

to the pulse of these times?

Listen...

When I listen, I see that we are collectively standing with one leg in the old and one only just in the new. The old is collapsing inside as well as outside. Traumas, ghosts of the past, lies, despair, the light itself, truth and wild potential are moving rampant in our being. All of that and so much more… such fertile times. The new is unfolding right now, while we weep, dance, sleep and try to escape from our old selves. Our rage, grief, fear, every tear we shed from our open and vulnerable hearts is showing us the way. We sense it in our bones. We know it intimately. The old is fuel for the new. We are ablaze. May the flames be fierce, consuming that which serves no longer.

Shapes and textures are different in the new.

We are becoming this stuff. I know you know this.

to the pulse of these times?
