Meeting Thousands of Little Fish

Today I went snorkeling with dear friends. At the end of our journey, I found myself surrounded by a large school of tiny fish. They were silver and as little as anchovies. They were shoaling: moving, turning and hovering as one coherent being.

As their fishy bodies glistened in the sun, it was as if I was surrounded by thousands and thousands of little light fairies. At some point I became aware that they had wrapped me completely into their school. I felt deeply safe and held. It felt surprisingly intimate and I wept a tear of awe that dropped into my goggles.

Meanwhile I felt the pulse of their colony ripple through my body. I could feel the peace and their collective intelligence. This is how thousands of little fish have shown me another piece of our world. We see when we take in deeply.
